After Dark in Cabaret: Designing a Coastal Cabaret Experience

After Dark in Cabaret: Designing a Coastal Cabaret Experience
As golden hour fades into evening, something transformative begins to take shape at Montage Laguna Beach. What starts as a serene coastal setting evolves into an immersive nightlife experience—effortless, elevated, and designed with intention.
Inspired by a coastal cabaret aesthetic, this event—planned by RMC—layered rich textures and refined details throughout the Blue Room, creating an atmosphere that felt both intimate and dynamic.
The Bar: A Statement in Form and Function
Our tiered slats bar, finished in a rich Brown tone, introduced warmth and contrast against the cooler blue hues. There were two different bar sections. One featured our custom light-up barback, adding a soft glow. Both bar elements were designed with multicolor adaptability, allowing them to seamlessly align with the event’s overall aesthetic.

Draping: Setting the Stage
Draping transformed the Blue Room into a fully immersive space. Over 250 feet of navy stretch velvet introduced depth and fluidity, instantly shifting the mood of the space. We added Gold tassels and fringe for texture, while tailored valances kept the look polished. At the entrance, layered swags and soft billows created a welcoming transition—setting the tone from the moment guests arrived.

Lounge Spaces: Designing for Connection
The popular navy blue sofa anchored the space, layered with pillows that reflected the event’s color story while adding dimension and softness. Our surrounding lounge chairs and Hollywood ottomans created flexible seating arrangements, encouraging guests to gather, relax, and engage. The layout supported both intimate conversations and open interaction, along with our Washington Dining chairs.

Statement Details: Props
To create a memorable sense of arrival, we chose oversized palm trees to frame the entrance — proving that sometimes a bold, scaled element is exactly what a space needs to feel complete. The combination of staging, props, and live performance elevated the environment. If you take a close look the bar also includes the Ceramic Cheetah table lamp, an unexpected touch that became a guest favorite, sparking conversation and photo moments alike.
The Takeaway: Designing an Experience, Not Just an Event
What made this coastal cabaret concept successful wasn’t any single design element—it was the way everything worked together. From draping and lighting to furniture and performance, each detail contributed to a cohesive narrative.
The result was an environment that felt intentional yet effortless. A true reflection of what modern coastal event design can achieve when atmosphere, setting, and storytelling are aligned.
