Today, we step into a styled shoot inspired by the traditional floating markets in Bangkok, Thailand with Sonia Sharma Events and Design and Celios Design. Originating in times and places where water transportation played and important role in daily life, floating markets were ways to sell vegetables, fruits and other goods from small boats. Most floating markets now operate as tourist attractions, with the most notable in Ratchaburi, Thailand called Damnoen Saduak.
Energized by the lively and bygone way of life, Sonia Sharma’s vision of her floating market was heightened with a fusion of color and beauty. A team consisting of Revelry Event Designers, Eni Pra Makeup, Couture Beauty Team, R-Mine Bespoke came together for the event, with the day captured by Andrena Photography.
The team sourced tropical fruits and vegetables similar to those that are sold on the market in Thailand to recreate the atmosphere. Celio Paulo de Almeida’s recipe consisted of a mixture of flowers, fruits and vegetables using roses, garden flowers, daisies, sunflowers, carnations, apples, watermelons, peppers, mangos, pineapple, oranges, peaches, grapes and bananas.
They opted for the creation of a custom-made umbrella draped with full and delicate blooms over a traditional bouquet. The end result was simply stunning to behold.
Three R-Mine Bespoke gowns were worn by the model throughout the day. Arminé Ohanessian’s couture gowns magnetize the attention of fashion lovers around the world. As the creative designer of R-mine Bespoke, she compliments modernism with old-fashioned quality workmanship. R-mine caters to all occasions from timeless and elegant bridal gowns to show-stopping red carpet ensembles. The gowns used for the shoot included:
Chriselle: Vintage inspired silk chiffon gown with a pleated bodice; detailed with Chantilly lace cape sleeves which trail down to a deep low back. Skirt is hand draped and finished with a swarovski brooch.
Brooklyn: Halter neck gown with a plunging low back, made in a dotted charmeuse. Adorned with an art-deco inspired crystal belt.
Rosette: Strapless gown with a plunging v-neckline. Bodice is adorned with handmade rosettes and pleated detail. Skirt is hand draped and finished with a swarovski brooch.
A truly beautiful vision. Dina Douglass shared with us her interpretation of the story from the day below in a short essay.
She woke to find her dreams had been of flowers . . . flowers from the floating market on the midnight azure waters of her village. As the slumber fell from her eyes, she felt herself being drawn towards the water that had surrounded her since she was a girl. She dressed herself in white and tiptoed outside towards the beckoning call of the river. There, a parasol covered in vibrant blossoms awaited her hand. As she reached for it, she saw a red canoe floating nearby. The vessel was filled with flowers and fruits, each promising to take her on a journey bathed in mystery.
She stepped in, and the water gently carried her away from her home. She had always felt as one with the water and with the colors that now dotted the darkness of the river. The water knew her best, and she knew the water would know where to go.
Many thanks to this amazing California team for sharing their inspirational shoot exclusively with Strictly Weddings!
