Guests knew this was going to be an extraordinary wedding when they received hand-painted invitations that matched the detailing of the couple’s wallpaper. The wedding took place at a lovely Malibu estate overlooking the Pacific Ocean. “I adored working with this couple” remarked their wedding coordinator, Julie Pryor of Pryor Events. “Marisa and Ezra wanted their wedding to be unique and gorgeous and also very inviting and warm. Every detail was important to them, but they also wanted to be careful not to go over the top in any way.”
Pre-ceremony Bellinis were served. A photo of their beloved dog, (named Bellini) sat atop the Bellini station with a note to guests saying he was sorry he wasn’t able to attend. The ceremony took place in a garden overlooking the sparkling ocean. The couple’s good friend served as their officiant and the ceremony was extremely touching, funny and personal.
Marisa and Ezra’s love of wine was reflected in their cocktail hour. We designed several wine and charcuterie tasting stations placed on rustic wine barrel tables in custom cabanas. Seating cards were attached to wine corks and displayed amongst crates of wine spilling with flowers.
Tray passed hors d’oeuvres included lobster corn-dogs, polenta crostini with wild mushrooms, mini grilled cheese sandwiches with short ribs and gruyere, gazpacho shooters and spicy poke tuna on wonton crisps. Guests dined beneath hanging Revelry crystal balls of light on a grand stone courtyard. They sat at wooden tables that were assembled on-site. An eclectic mix of Revelry chairs, benches and sofas completed the look.
Julie Pryor discusses the decor: “We hand picked every element of the decor. We worked closely with Revelry and The Hidden Garden so that the flowers would complement the pieces we chose but not overwhelm them. Flowers included fluffy peonies in the softest of pink, antiqued cymbidiums, and white and blush tone garden roses”
“The menu was classic and perfect.” Pryor said “You can have the most amazing setting, but if the food is not fantastic, nothing else matters. I love working with the extraordinary chef Dave Rubell. Marisa and Ezra were shocked that a wedding meal could taste so amazing! There is a reason Rubell, (Bruce Springsteen’s former private chef) was selected to prepare Julia Child’s 75th birthday meal.”
As Ezra has a weakness for fries – each table had cones of beet, sweet potato and truffled Yukon gold fries with assorted dipping sauces. The plated meal began with a Mediterranean chopped salad consisting of beets, olives, hearts of palm and a blood orange vinaigrette and an heirloom tomato and bufala mozzarella salad. The entrée consisted of roast dry aged prime New York strip with porcini peppercorn sauce, corn risotto with Tuscan pecorino and English peas and farmer’s market vegetable sauté and roasted Brussels sprouts with pine nuts.
Waiters passed Chef Rubell’s signature butternut squash soufflé with crispy topping. Many guests had thirds of this addictive dish. After dinner guests moved to a large deck for dessert, cake and dancing.
Sofas and antique cocktail tables were brought in to complete this indoor/outdoor space. An electric violinist and a percussionist accompanied the d j’s songs. Guests who did not wish to dance played a hole or two of golf on the home’s putting green overlooking the ocean.
Ezra’s favorite team The LA Kings were in a final game of The Stanley Cup Playoffs the very same night as his wedding. Marisa surprised him with a life-sized cake of the Stanley Cup. English toffee, chocolate drizzled pretzels and caramel with notes from the newlyweds were appreciated by guests who enjoyed them on the shuttles after they departed.
The Malibu sky was covered with stars as Marisa and Ezra departed their perfect wedding.
